DONABATE - A LANDSCAPE TO INSPIRE

For generations, Donabate has been a favoured holiday or leisure destination for the more discerning Dubliner. It's easy to see why.

The location on the Portrane Pennisula overlooking the Malahide Estuary is delightful. At the Strand, you have more than two beautifully unspoilt kilometres, space to lose yourself and escape the pressures of 21st century living. Or simply marvel at the stunning seascapes, and vistas of Lambay Island and Ireland's Eye.

Around Donabate there are a myriad of fascinating features, both natural and and man-made. There's the wildlife reserve at Rogerstown, home to a magnificent array of flora and fauna. There are fine houses, none more so than Newbridge House. Set in 350 acres of beautiful parkland, this has to be one of the finest 18th century manors in Ireland. It also plays host to a traditional farm, with sheep, fowl, pigs and cattle.

The Martello Tower is a fascinating relic of the Napoleonic war. There are also medieval churches, castles, shipwrecks - you could write a book about it.

If swing is your thing, you'll find 6 golf courses in the area with two championship courses. While the town of Donabate itself is now a thriving community, blending its ancient roots and rural charms very well with its modern face. In fact, although the centre is just a few years old it has already won 1st prize in the prestigious Fingal County Tidy Village Competition.
